EDUCATION
Brad Cowan
When asked what he would like to share with the congregation, Brad wrote,
"As the Deacon of Education, first allow me to thank
everyone for the honor and privilege of being a deacon at the
Lascassas Church of Christ. The support from the elders &
deacons, and the rest of the congregation, has been
tremendous, and I truly appreciate your help. Next, allow me
to thank the teachers of our classes. I've said before that to
truly learn the Bible, one simply has to prepare to teach a
class. We have so many good teachers at Lascassas, and I
feel we are truly blessed.
At Oakland High School, we have a motto – It's all about the
'O.' In the realm of teaching and learning God's word, I say it's
all about three O's – Obedience, Obligation, and Opportunity.
In Matthew 28:19, we are instructed to "Go and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and TEACHING
them to obey everything I have commanded you. In the
gospels alone, "teaching' is mentioned 57 times. If we are to
OBEY, we are to teach.
OBLIGATION. One of the definitions of this term is 'moral
responsibility.' This reminds me of our recent lessons about
the early church in Jerusalem. Acts 4:32 says that all the
believers were one in heart and mind … they shared
everything they had. While this particular passage was
referring to possessions, I feel we can share our talents and
knowledge in teaching and learning the Word of God.
Galatians 6:10 says, "Therefore as we have OPPORTUNITY,
let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to
the family of believers." As the old saying goes, "Opportunity
knocks." If you want to teach and help further expand God's
Kingdom, just knock on our door, and the opportunity will be
provided."
